Visit the Southford Stud ’Quality and Finesse’ website.

On their site you will find some of the following information.
Southford, being portion 7 of the original farm Stockenstromkop 77, was purchased in 1960 by David’s late father Percy Southey. It was purchased when it became apparent that the family farm, Groenfontein, was to be expropriated with the building of the Hendrik Verwoerd Dam, now known as the Gariep Dam. Southford Thoroughbred Stud was established in 1966 by David with 7 mares inherited from his father.

The stud now stands 35 mares which include about 10 boarding mares. There has always been a resident stallion on the stud, topped perhaps by the South African bred stallion DAMASK, who was the leading first season sire in 1971 and produced many top class horses. Currently the resident stallion is the highly successful, syndicate owned, ANNOUNCE, who is a three parts brother to the international champion stallion DANEHILL.
